Rescue Knitwear

Our fundraiser started in July 2020 after I posted a photo of Mui Mui wearing a sweater, I had knitted for her. The response to that photo was overwhelming with people asking to buy one.

Michelle and Yvonne contacted me about forming a team of knitters and our Schnauzer Rescue Knitting Team was born, as well as wonderful friendships.

During our first season Yvonne with a little help from Michelle and me refined the pattern and 3 standard sizes. Yvonne even convinced me to adapt to her style of knitting, as well as, becoming a devotee of the Russian Join ;)

Between 26/6/2020 and 30/7/2020 our team assisted by Jude Lucey, Karen Cartwright, Carolyn Grieg, Suzanne Curie, and Sam Bennett created seventy made to order custom sweaters. I tried to match Michelle’s power knitting but had to admit defeat at 17 sweaters whilst, Michelle amazingly knitted more than twenty-five.

I established The Haus of Mui Mui online shop in February 2021 to assist in our fundraising efforts and to reduce the incredible workload and burden on our knitters by allowing them to knit at a more leisurely pace to provide knitwear to sell online, at the Rescue Stall at Mui Mui’s monthly Cookies and Play Dates. and Schnauzer Big Day Out

In February 2022 Yvonne suggested that we create a Matchy Matchy sweater and beanie combination, to be available at Mui Mui’s April Cookies and Play Date April and then Schnauzer Big Day Out in May.

Michelle and I., under the expert guidance of Yvonne, spent a couple very enjoyable weeks, creating and refining the beanie pattern before releasing it to other members of the team.

To gauge the reaction to the Matchy Matchy concept and price, I took two sets to Mui Mui’s February Cookies and Play Date and they sold as soon as I put them on table during setup.

At the April Cookies and Play Date a young boy wanted a particular beanie, I was amazed at how extremely gifted at convincing his parents that he desperately needed that. beanie. To help I suggested that I could just sell them the beanie to which the boy responded, “Our schnauzer needs the sweater to keep warm when I take him out at night, and I need to keep my head warm too.”  His parents relented and bought the set

Schnauzer Big Day Out was a tremendous success for our team’s knitwear, with nineteen sweaters and 15 Matchy Matchy sets sold. The knitwear and other items donated by the Haus of Mui Mui raised the amazing total of $1352 Schnauzer Rescue and Rehoming.
